17/ 3 - Chaos

Crisis strikes. Everyone: Panic.

The Swedish government has decided to urge all higher educations to close down and go over to distance and online courses. We are at the start of the most important game project during our time at PSQ. People don’t know how well they’ll be able to work from home, how communication is going to work, or even if there’s going to be a game project at all.

I spent my whole day preparing for the inevitable change. Setting up a document with guidelines and rules to follow. Answering questions. Looking over the project and deciding what has to be cut out if the remote working slows us down. A lot of preparations had to be done.

We had no finished GDD, or at least nothing structured that was readable. After all discussions and defining most things had just been thrown in there. If we are going to work remotely then everyone needs access to a clear and structured GDD.

On top of it all Hansoft decided to stop working because of licensing problems. Planning has never been more important, and I suddenly can’t finish my planning for even the first week.

A long day. It’s been a very long day of preparation. I set up a backup plan, in case Hansoft wouldn’t be available for a few days. I stayed late to make sure the GDD had a nice structure so it could be handed out to the group as soon as possible. I structured rules and informed the group of it. At the end of the day the panicky morning felt very far away, and things were looking up. Tomorrow is the first day of quarantine and only time can tell how it affects us.
