18/ 3 - Quarantine: Day 1

Writer's picture: Saga LindquistSaga Lindquist

The school is very empty. We are a few people working from here, keeping the main communications going. It feels less and less like the distance is going to be a big problem. We held many meetings and communication is only getting better. People are following the guidelines and rules so far, and things are looking better and better.

Hansoft is finally working as it should. I can finally fill up the backlog with all tasks and plan out sprints. I finally feel like I’m back on track with my personal goal of keeping things as structured as possible. A large chunk of the day has gone into planning and really setting up the project in Hansoft, and it feels really good to have a structure. I have kept the possible technical issues and eventual slower help from teachers into consideration, but I still expect people to put as much time into their work as they do at home.

Feature groups have been put together for the main parts of the game. Right now we have Art prep, consisting of most artists, our graphics interested programmer and the creative director who can keep the original vision. We have the Level team consisting of our environmental artists and level designers. The biggest team, however, is the Gameplay/ combat team. It’s split into two smaller groups, the player group and the enemy group and they will work separately, but with a common feature owner who makes sure that things correlate correctly. We also have a smaller Feedback team that’s going to work with feedback like SFX and VFX to improve the game feel. I also have future plans of groups that are needed further ahead.

First day in quarantine was a success. Let’s hope the trend continues.
